"Welcome To My Blog"

Today is June 7, 2015, so much has happened in the years since my last update here. On February 28,2014 I suffered a Heart Attack. Probably one of scariest events of my life but deeply grateful that the Lord has spared me. So because of Him I am here today and able to give Him praise. We are enjoying the warm months of summer here in Georgia as we watch the spring like weather fade. I hope all are enjoying the blessings of our great God!

"For I know my thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will harken unto you. And ye shall seek me and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13

Barbara Carlan is a self taught artist living in the southeast. She was born in Washington D.C., was primarily raised in the panhandle of Florida and traveled all over southeastern United States and parts of Washington state as a child of the military. Barbara from an early age showed a passionate interest in art. She began painting and writing poetry in the late 1980's. Now that her life is free from the responsibilities of parenting and the necessary demands of having a growing family, she's able to pursue her true passions, painting, writing, photography and sewing. Barbara has discovered through art that life with it's complexities can find a sweet fragrance of release through the creative process.

"Love Is A Cupcake"

This picture is one of several in a series that I recently photographed for "Valentines Day." It's title certainly doesn't classify it as purely for "V" Day but hearts of any kind always seem to focus our attention on that particular holiday I think. What is it about human nature that we sometimes need a little push to do random acts of kindness for others. Marketers know that about us, hence the reason for friends day, teachers day, etc. Retailers bank on these manufactured holidays to boost their sales and take up the slack between our yearly Christmas season. I don't know about you but, often it's the unexpected things that others do on my behalf that really touches me. You know, I'm convinced it isn't always about the gift or it's cost, but it's the idea of having someone extract a little portion of their time to find ways to brighten my day a little that touch me the most profoundly. I have to admit on the few occasions in life when I've had the privledge of receiving a random act of kindness, it has really made my day. Perhaps if your reading this you may know someone who could use a little sunshine on this cold day in Feburary. Most of us are feeling the blues of a long cold winter and long for the warmer days of spring by now. Why not bake a pan of brownies or a tray of chocolate chip cookies to deliver to their front door steps to say I thought of you today. Beside having the oven on will help to warm up the house a little while filling your home with a pleasant aroma of freshly baked treats. If time is an issue because of a busy schedule, there is always the local bakery to pick out some delectible goodies. Another idea is to give a hand written note of appreciation, something most of us don't receive anymore because of email, telling them how much you love and appreciate them in your life. You'll be amazed at the wonders it can do for the lonely or isolated. Why not make a promise to yourself for the upcoming months of the year of 2010 to try and do at least one random act of kindness for those special people in your life at least once a month. Come on now, how hard can that really be. Besides, I have the feeling that you'll be more blessed in the giving, than they are in the receiving!!! Just thinking out loud....................Barbara
